Weather here comes directly from the NWS Aviation Weather Center, but this app is not a certified electronic flight bag, and viewing data here does not constitute an official preflight briefing. Reports can be delayed, incomplete, or missing entirely. Obtain an official briefing from an approved source, and treat what you see here as advisory.
Email support@gooddogsolutions.com. It is read by the person who wrote the app. If you are reporting a problem, the station identifier and roughly when you saw it are usually enough to find the cause.
That is usually correct, not a bug. Routine METARs are issued once an hour — most US fields between :53 and :56 Zulu — so between issues, the most recent observation genuinely is up to an hour old. The app always shows the age alongside the reading so you can judge it. A SPECI may arrive sooner when conditions change.
watchOS grants background refreshes sparingly, and only while the app is in the Dock or has a complication on your active watch face. If it has neither, the watch will refresh rarely. Adding the METAR Maid complication to the face you actually use is what keeps the data warm. Opening the app always fetches immediately.
Not every field reports continuously, and roughly one station in twenty omits a flight category even when it does report. If a station is reliably blank when you believe it should not be, send the identifier.
Nearby searches within 75 nautical miles. If you are somewhere with no reporting stations in that radius it will say so. Check also that location access is granted in Settings — the app asks only for “While Using the App”, at kilometre accuracy.
Flight categories use the conventional aviation colours — green VFR, blue MVFR, red IFR, magenta LIFR — and the category text is always shown alongside, so the display stays readable in sunlight and for colour-blind pilots.
All weather comes from aviationweather.gov, the Aviation Weather Center operated by the United States National Weather Service. The app adds no interpretation of its own beyond formatting and the flight-category colours.
